Protecting Our Environment
When a home is built with a concern for the environment, people living in that house reap many benefits: lower operating costs, simpler maintenance, better indoor air quality, and a recognition that limited environmental resources are being conserved.
We at KBRS are proud to be proactive in that we offer products that have been tested and have qualified as being environmentally friendly. You will notice the NAHB Research Center logo on certain portions of this website and statements about ANSI certifications. These are significant in that builders and remodelers who use our products can earn points to help qualify their projects for "green" certification following national standards for residential construction.
Here is an explanation of the national program as found on the National Green Building Standard™ website (nahbgreen.org).
In 2007 the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the International Code Council (ICC) partnered to establish a much-needed and nationally-recognizable standard definition of what is meant by "Green Building."
A consensus committee was formed to develop this standard in compliance with the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The resulting ANSI approved ICC-700-2008 National Green Building Standard defines green building for single and multifamily homes, residential remodeling projects and site development projects while still allowing for the flexibility required for regionally-appropriate best green practices.
Similar to the NAHB Model Green Homebuilding Guidelines, a builder, remodeler or developer must incorporate a minimum number of features in the following areas: energy, water, and resource efficiency, lot and site development, indoor environmental quality, and home owner education. The more points accrued, the higher the score.
If you are a builder or remodeler planning to use KBRS products, please contact our sales department to see how the points can be applied to your project for green certification.
If you are a homeowner and KBRS products are being used in your home, you can be proud of taking this additional step in the protection of the environment.
